Oil Emulsion Gauze

The Oil Emulsion Gauze Dressing is a sterile primary dressing designed for direct application to skin lesions. It consists of a non-adherent gauze mesh that is thoroughly impregnated with white petrolatum in a specially formulated oil emulsion blend. This design isolates the raw wound bed from secondary absorbent materials, ensuring a protective and soothing environment.

Petrolatum and sunflower seed oil blend – helps maintain a moist wound interface, supporting physiological tissue hydration without sticking to healing surfaces.

Permeable open-mesh weave – permits vertical exudate fluid transfer into secondary dressings, which helps reduce the risk of exudate pooling and peri-wound tissue maceration.

Non-adherent formulation – helps reduce mechanical trauma and patient discomfort during dressing peeling and clinical changes.

Supple woven substrate – conforms closely to challenging anatomical curves, joints, and irregular contour wounds without bunching or wrinkling.

Individual sterile pouch packaging – helps ensure aseptic delivery and reduces the potential for clinical cross-contamination across surgical wards.

Stable lipid coating weight (250 ± 50 g/m²) – ensures balanced and uniform ointment impregnation across the entirety of the contact mesh.

Clinical Indications:

• Skin graft recipient sites and donor harvest sites.
• Clean surgical incisions, suture lines, staple closures, and post-operative wound care.
• Minor thermal burns and scald wounds (1st and superficial 2nd degree).
• Dermal abrasions, skin tears, superficial lacerations, and friction injuries.
• Venous stasis ulcers, pressure injuries, and diabetic foot wounds under professional clinical management.

Clinical Handling & Change Protocols:

Apply directly to cleansed wound margins extending 2–3 cm beyond the affected area, and cover with an appropriate secondary absorbent pad or conforming bandage.

Daily changes recommended for moderate-to-high exuding wounds; can be extended up to 3 days as drainage decreases under clinical direction.

Single continuous use of an individual dressing should not exceed 7 days; total cumulative clinical application must not exceed 30 days.

If dressing appears dry during removal, saturate the mesh with sterile saline solution to facilitate gentle peeling.

Contraindicated for full-thickness third-degree burns and patients with known hypersensitivity to petrolatum, sunflower oil, or related formulation components.
